Pool and Chemical Safety

Pool Safety Safety Alert Lifesaver

A pool owner's #1 responsibilty is to create a safety plan and policy at home, discuss with family, and implement. All swimmers should be aware of your safety plan and policy.

Swimming Safety Tips:

  • Make sure that children are properly supervised by an adult.

  • Keep your eyes on young children, particularly in a crowded pool.

  • Be certain that your pool is properly sanitized to kill harmful bacteria.

  • Swimming pools can be a breeding ground for dangerous microorganisms; chlorine helps maintain a clean and safe pool. Be certain to carefully follow all directions on pool treatment products.

  • Prevent accidents by not running by the pool, diving off the ladder, or engaging in horseplay.

  • Horseplay at poolside is a major cause of pool-related accidents.

  • Keep lifesaving equipment and a first aid kit nearby.

  • For those who own their own pool, be sure adult supervisors have been trained in CPR.

  • Ensure against unattended pool use by maintaining layers of safety protection.

  • Fencing, latched gates, and pool covers can prevent small children from entering your pool without your knowledge.

  • Post CPR instructions/emergency instructions in the pool area.

  • Post pool rules in a visible area.

  • Keep a phone in the pool area for easy access.

  • Do not use glass containers near swimming pools.

  • Do not use extention cords to run pool; we advise you to seek a professional electrician to ground wires for proper pool operation.

  • Remember water and electricity do not mix and it can be very dangerous and life threatening!

First Aid

We strongly recommend all pool owners to contact the American Red Cross in your area for First Aid and CPR training.
